Teachers and 25.8L students influenced

My journey in CLDP has led to great self empowerment. Moreover, this shift in myself is clearly influencing a shift in my school, where I am able to create a culture of learning, listening and productivity.

Sunita Dahiya

DoE Principal

One of the most valuable insights I took away from our offsite was learning how to listen intently, reflect on the conversation, and then respond thoughtfully. Too often, we cut others off mid-sentence and fail to fully comprehend what they are saying. This occurs frequently in schools when we give orders without fully understanding the teachers’ perspectives.

Mukesh Rana

MCD Principal, Keshavpuram Zone

Through the program, we have experienced a connection that is based on equality, empathy and interconnectedness. We are not formal, but co-learners working together for a larger vision.

P. D Sharma

DoE Principal

I’ve shifted from reacting to thoughtfully responding. Instead of complaining about a broken system, I now focus on asking, “What can I do to make it work?” This change in mindset empowers me to actively contribute to solutions.

P.K. Gupta

Retired DoE Principal & Facilitator Developer

In my experience, the eagerness of principals to learn and engage indicated an atmosphere of genuine excitement and much learning.

Anil Kumar Balyan

Deputy Director of Education, Shahdara South Zone, Delhi

  • Principal Leadership Programs

Strengthening Principal Leadership with Depth and Scale

Effective school leadership is vital to student outcomes, second only to teacher quality (Augustine et al., 2009). Unlike teachers, principals often lack formal preparation for their role, which requires balancing academic and administrative responsibilities. To address this, we became a knowledge partner to SCERT, Delhi and the Directorate of Education in 2012 to develop Delhi government’s secondary school principals through the Cluster Leadership Development Program (CLDP). Following a decade of CLDP’s success, we partnered with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in 2021 to impact Delhi government’s primary school principals through the Primary Leadership Development Program (PLDP).

  • How We Do It

Principal-facilitators voluntarily lead their peers

Volunteer principal facilitators are carefully chosen every year and then developed by our team of facilitator developers (FDs)—retired principals with a wealth of experience. With their FDs' guidance, the facilitators lead peer learning within their small groups, awakening leadership within each principal across Delhi's government schools!

Peer-Led Learning through Facilitation

Each learning community or cluster - a small group of 10-12 principals - is led by the principal facilitator where learning happens between equals through facilitation.

A Continuous Practice of Learning

Our programs are long-term and offer continuous and contextual professional development through monthly cycles of cluster sessions.

Inner and Outer Growth

Cluster learning focuses on principals’ inner being (self awareness, agency) and outer leadership competencies across four themes: self, operational, pedagogical and systemic leadership.

Systemic Change from Within

By organising learning communities of principals that are volunteer-led, the programs’ impact ripples throughout the education system, driving sustainable transformation internally.

Our Principal Facilitator Developers

Our FDs, or Facilitator Developers, are key partners who volunteer their time and expertise to nurture other school leaders. They are retired principals having rich leadership experiences to draw from and a desire to give back to their communities.

How they Impact

As a guide by the side, they hold a safe, reflective space for the principal facilitators so they can learn and grow together. Our FDs impart valuable facilitation skills to enable facilitators to lead their principal groups effectively.
